Every gemstone on our website is represented with a photograph
and detailed description on the gemstone detail page and a general
overview of the gemstone variety in the Learning Center.
All photographs are taken with a digital camera and are actual
photographs of each of the gemstones in our inventory. We do our best
to show an image that is as close to the actual gemstone
as possible. We do not editing our images with saturation or hue.
Please note, that not eye visible inclusions can be seen on the picture.
That happens because our photos are taken at high magnification.
Our verbalization of color is based on the GIA/Munsell color grading system.
The Munsell color-order system is a way of precisely specifying colors and showing the relationships among colors. Every color has three qualities or attributes: hue, value, and chroma. The GIA terms are hue, tone, and saturation but the meaning is the same. You can find detailed color descriptions, by clicking the color description link on every gemstone detail page.
Color correct gemstone photography is our ultimate objective and in most
cases the colors of our images will be even more specific than the verbal
description. However, since the colors of images do show some variations
depending on the computer, the screen settings, and the monitor quality, it
is important to consider both the image and the color description.
Our verbalization of gemstone enhancements fully comply with the FTC Guides.
With the exception of the normal fashioning (cutting and polishing) of a diamond
and other gemstone.
Because of the complexity of the "sliding scale" for clarity from GIA
standards, we describe clarity for all gemstones on the same scale on our website,
regardless of whether the gemstone is a Type 1, Type 2, or Type 3 gemstone.
Therefore, a gemstone that is described as "eye-clean" will not have
eye-visible inclusions, whether the stone is a Type 1 (Tanzanite, for example),
Type 2 (Garnet, for example), or Type 3 (Emerald, for example), in the clarity
descriptions on our website.
